This is the plant of "Erica Arborea" from whose roots the briar used to make pipes is extracted.
Stages in the process of pipe-making. The plateau briar is at first given a rough shape based on the straight grain direction,
then it is perforated, and finally moulded.
The stem is the stylish element which makes the pipe a noble object.
An olive ring is embedded into the stem for its elegance and preciousness.
At first stage an outline of the shape is marked on the wood.
The briar is carved along the shape perviously outlined.
The shape is refined using hand files end large grain abrasive discs.
Smoothing is perforned by means of progressively thinner grits
of sandpaper.
The rustication process: a special tool roughens the sourfce of the wood.
The final phase, "the polishing", is executed by using a buffing wheel: it’s at this stage that the pipe goins it’s splendour.
